China 2012 Wheat Harvest Overstated

The United States attaché in Beijing insists China wheat production was overstated last season, shrinking  9 million metric tons to 108 million metric tons in the 2012 harvest , due to widespread disease and drought stress.    Officially, the USDA projects China wheat production at 120.6 million metric tons.     

Annual consumption of wheat is 123 million metric tons.    Either way, the state would need to dip into the wheat reserves to supply domestic needs.   China is the world’s leading wheat grower and also the biggest consumer of wheat due to its very large population... subscribers continue to full story...
