Ukraine growers intend to boost spring grain plantings this season by 15-30% to make up for serious losses in winter grains from drought and winter kill. Farmers would need to replant 1.7 million hectares of spring wheat and barley to offset losses. Estimates are that 17% of winter wheat and a similar amount of barley were lost from historic drought last fall.
ProAgro the Ukraine research group also projects a sharp increase in oilseed plantings this spring, sunflower rising 9.4%, and soybeans 24%, year over year.
