Beneficial Rains Douse Midwest
A strong wave of showers on the weekend brought soaking rains to dry farms in Iowa, southeast Nebraska, Missouri, northern Illinois and Wisconsin. Rainfall averaged around one inch, but was locally heavier, up to 2.5 inches in scattered strong thunderstorms. Historic summer drought had created soil moisture deficits of 5 inches or more.
