Russia Crops Benefit From Rain, More Still Needed

The weather conditions have changed in European Russia, turning sharply cooler and wetter over the past week.    A massive ridge of high pressure has moved to the east opening the door for rain showers and cooler air to invade European Russia.  Crops in the Volga, Black Earth and Southern District are benefiting from the cooler weather, though rainfall has varied across the region.  Winter wheat is the main crop produced in European Russia.   Barley,  corn and sunflowers are important summer crops.
