Dry conditions in Ukraine that are spurring rapid spring planting may reflect emerging drought.
Spring planting is moving ahead rapidly in Ukraine in an unusually warm spring. By April 27, 4.98 million hectares of crops had been sown based on estimates from the Kiev based group UkrAgroConsult. The rapid sowing is faster than last year’s planting rate, 4.43 million hectares, also ahead of schedule.
